Learning Sciences Marzano Center for Teacher and Leader Evaluation

Announces New District Leader Evaluation Model

The capstone of a fully aligned evaluation system encompassing teacher, school leader, and support personnel evaluation, the Marzano District Leader Evaluation Model shares with previous models an unwavering focus on student achievement.

Learning Sciences Marzano Center for Teacher and Leader Evaluation is pleased to announce the launch of a new model for the evaluation of school district leaders. The new model is designed for uniform alignment with Robert J. Marzano’s previous evaluation systems for teachers and school leaders.

Like the teacher and school leader evaluation models, and based on three decades of research connecting the actions, behaviors, and priorities of district leaders with student achievement, the district leader evaluation model makes a focus on effective classroom instruction a primary priority across all departments of the district. The Marzano District Leader Evaluation Model encourages district leaders to deliberately undertake the actions that support principals and drive learning. The model includes six domains, five of which correspond to domains in the school leader model. When used together, the two models help achieve a tightly coupled organizational structure with an emphasis on measurable student achievement as supported by data.

Says Learning Sciences Marzano Center CEO Michael Toth, “To our knowledge, this is the first time a model for the evaluation of district leaders has been developed in seamless alignment with models for teachers, school leaders, and support personnel. The new district leader evaluation model creates an opportunity for a shared focus on instruction and student achievement that touches every educator in a district. We recognize that district leadership, school leadership, teacher actions, and student achievement represent a complex system of interacting influences. When all the elements within this system are operating in concert, we can truly maximize the impact of K-12 schooling.”

Learning Sciences Marzano Center for Teacher and Leader Evaluation, located in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, promotes excellence in public education by providing and developing next-generation teacher and leadership evaluation tools and training. Built on a foundation of expert research into best practices in partnership with national researcher and author Dr. Robert Marzano, the Center identifies, develops, and disseminates cutting-edge resources in educational best practices. Their goal is to support teachers to be highly effective, lifelong learners, and in doing so, to significantly impact student growth and achievement over time.
