Meagan Velez is passionate for all things teaching and learning. She earned her B.A. in Elementary Education with an ESOL endorsement at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL. Her multi-faceted experience in the education field began in the classroom as a 3rd Grade teacher at a Title-1 elementary art school in South Florida. Upon relocating to Northern Virginia, she widened her scope of experience in her work as a Teaching Artist. Aiming to reach a wide audience of teachers and students through the deeply impactful work of arts integration she delivered both Professional Development and In-Person Residency workshops for schools throughout D.C., Maryland, and Virginia metropolitan areas.
She offered workshops for Prince George’s County Public Schools: Arts Integration Conference, The Kennedy Center’s CETA Conference, and Utah State University’s AAC Conference. In this work, she has developed a workshop where students create and perform their own curriculum-based dramatic stories turned scripts through a collaborative process. While doing so, Meagan continued to expand her skills as an educator by specializing in language development of English Language Learners in Prince William County.
Meagan often supported teachers in their Collaborative Learning Teams (PLC’s) to ensure planning was targeting core instruction to ensure delivery of highly impactful lessons. She was also a part of a special task force working on ELA Curriculum Alignment for the County’s ELA department. She combines all of her experience to enhance the depth of learning for all students. She truly believes that all students are inherently creative and innovative. They deserve best practices by all educators to allow them to tap into their full potential as people.
