Policy Paper: Comprehensive and Balanced Assessment Systems

The Future of Assessment Practices:

Comprehensive and Balanced Assessment Systems

On March 26, Susan Brookhart, Jay McTighe, Rick Stiggins, and Dylan Wiliam—four of the world’s top authorities on formative assessment—will release a paper about urgent equity problems they’ve discovered in American assessment systems.

"Most current district assessment systems are not comprehensive or balanced," say the authors. "The most vulnerable, especially students who struggle, students of color, and students in poverty, are disproportionately harmed."

On the day of the release, the authors will hold a free online press conference to share:

  • A candid review of the current state of k-12 assessment in the United States
  • Steps schools must take to create balanced, comprehensive assessment systems
  • Grading policies that will support (rather than hinder) student learning

This timely and important discussion is open to the public. Register now for your attendee link to be among the first to hear about the findings and analysis.
