Daniel R. Venables has been in education for over 30 years, 25 of them as an award-winning high school math teacher and department chair. In 2010, he left the classroom and founded the Center for Authentic PLCs and The Grapple Institutes that grew from the Centers consulting work training teacher leaders to build, lead, and sustain authentic professional learning communities in their schools. He has written three best-selling books on the subject: The Practice of Authentic PLCs: A Guide to Effective Teacher Teams (Corwin, 2011), How Teachers Can Turn Data Into Action (ASCD, 2014), and Facilitating Teacher Teams and Authentic PLCs: The Human Side of Leading People, Protocols, and Practices (ASCD, 2018). His newest book, Deliberate Honor: Implementing Student-Run Honor Councils in Secondary Schools, came out this year.
