Elizabeth “Libby” Garst, MEd

Libby Garst, M.Ed., began her relationship with Learning Sciences as a facilitator for online courses for the Art and Science of Teaching master's program for the National Institute for Professional Practice. She has created professional development for Marzano Essentials for Achieving Rigor, Dylan Wiliam's Strategic Formative Assessment, and LSI's Standards-Driven Math Curriculum. Her work as a Content Team Lead includes designing numerous resources on research-based instructional strategies for the LSI iObservation library, constructing Math Learning Targets and Success Criteria for the LSI Tracker platform, managing LSI's Video Projects, and assisting in video editing. Libby is also a member of the curriculum team and assists districts in developing standards-aligned mathematics lessons and units and provides professional learning to teachers, building coaches, and district leadership teams.

Libby served as a Teacher and Instructional Math Coach at the elementary and middle school levels. She is a graduate of Virginia Tech and received her master's degree as a K-8 Math Specialist from the University of Virginia. She is co-author with Dr. Robert J. Marzano and Carla Moore of Creating & Using Learning Targets & Performance Scales: How Teachers Make Better Instructional Decisions.
