ABOUT OUR FACULTY
Founded by former university faculty and researchers, Learning Sciences International employs only the most highly qualified professionals as staff developers—those with extensive real-world classroom experience.
Michelle Fitzsimmons has extensive educational experience, focused in the areas of curriculum development, instruction and leadership. In her 30+ years as an educator, Michelle has worked at the building, district, state, national and international level. She taught pre-K – grade 5, and has served as a teacher, Reading Specialist, Assistant Principal, Director of Curriculum and Instruction and has taught as an Adjunct Professor. Michelle co-directed the NYS Reading Resource Center, and served as a Regional Director and Literacy Specialist for the Mid-West Regional School Support Center in New York State.
Michelle's career has been driven by her belief that, as educators, it is our responsibility to prepare all students to be successful, participating members of their communities and the world. She has dedicated her career to designing curriculum and district structures that enable schools to meet the needs of their students. She has worked closely with schools that are serving students of poverty, English language learners and students with disabilities. She has assisted these schools with curriculum development, data analysis, interventions and using instructional routines that provide all students access to achieving grade-level standards.
Michelle has provided professional learning opportunities to administrators, regional and building level literacy coaches and classroom teachers in rural, suburban and urban schools. She has presented locally and at the state, national and international levels. Her presentations focus on standards based instructional implementation, curriculum development, scheduling, interventions as well as educational leadership.
Michelle is currently a Staff Developer for Learning Sciences International. As a member of the curriculum team, Michelle assists districts in developing standards-aligned lessons and units in English language arts K-12; and provides professional learning to teachers, building coaches and district leadership teams.
